Wrexham Town Police Station FC’s four game winning streak is over.
The team’s unbeaten record culminated in a decisive defeat in their last outing against Bridge The Gap FC.
Although disappointed with the end result, club founder Sgt Dave Smith remains optimistic about his team’s progress to date.
“All credit goes to Bridge The Gap who had some very good footballers in their squad and deserved to win that day,” he said.
“Once again the game was played in the right spirit on both sides and appeared to be enjoyed by everyone involved.
“As always for us, the result was secondary to what we try to achieve when we step onto the pitch.
“It was our fifth game since the establishment of this club as part of our community engagement initiative.
“Every party we’ve dealt with so far has been in complete agreement with what we’re trying to achieve, which is to break down barriers between police and communities.
“We would like to thank the football community for making us feel so welcome.
“We formed this team to forge stronger bonds with the public and we have already been inundated with so much support.
“I hope we showed a human side to the police and gave people a positive impression of the force as a whole.”
Other matches are already scheduled for the summer against FC United of Wrexham and Rainbow Toffees, a group of Everton’s LGBTQ+ supporters.
Officers will also be in action at the annual North Wales Dragons Invitational Tournament in Llandudno on Saturday June 12.
