LOS ANGELES — For a few hours last week, drivers in Northern California found surprising respite from rising prices — a Shell station selling fuel for $0.69 a gallon. But the deal of a lifetime was the result of a misplaced comma, and the responsible manager was fired.
John Szczecina was supposed to set the price at $6.99. He told KOVR-TV in Sacramento that he “put all three prices there except the diesel, but the last one didn’t work, you know, did it.”
