Upon returning to the NCAA Tournament, Louisiana baseball landed in the College Station Regional.
No. 5 seed Texas A&M will host the Ragin’ Cajuns (36-21) along with TCU (36-20) and Oral Roberts (38-18) with games beginning Friday. The Aggies open regional play against Oral Roberts on Friday at 1 p.m. CT with UL and TCU playing at 7 p.m.
The full field of 64 teams chosen by the NCAA Selection Committee was announced on ESPN2.
UL landed the Sun Belt Conference’s automatic bid in regionals by winning the league tournament championship with its come from behind, 7-6 win over Georgia Southern on Sunday afternoon. The win ended a six-season Cajun drought missing the NCAA Tournament.
The Ragin’ Cajuns’ run to the conference title was necessary because most projections entering Sunday’s game had them in the “top four eliminated” group, meaning they were expected to miss earning a berth overall. if they hadn’t gotten the automatic bid.
Louisiana has an all-time record of 25-26 in NCAA regional play and last qualified in super regional in 2015.
