International convenience store chain Circle K will partner with marijuana company Green Thumb Industries to sell cannabis at Florida gas stations next year.

Green Thumb, a national cannabis company that has dispensaries selling marijuana products under the name Rise Dispensaries, said the rollout will begin with 10 select locations in 2023 before potentially expanding in the future.

Through an exclusive deal, Green Thumb says it can technically lease space at Circle K in Florida, where the gas station chain has 600 locations. Green Thumb’s in-store services will be named Rise Express.

“The opening of RISE Express stores in Circle K stores is a game changer,” said Ben Kovler, President and CEO of Green Thumb. in a report. “Convenience is a strong channel in retail, and people want better access to cannabis.”

Cannabis products sold at Circle K stores will include flowers, pre-rolls, gummies and vapes, according to Green Thumb.

The cannabis is grown at a nearby facility to Green Thumb in Ocala, Florida, which will be operational by the end of 2022.

Marijuana is legal for medical use in Florida. In the United States, approximately 37 states have legalized medical use and another 19 states for recreational use. Washington, DC has legalized the recreational and medical use of marijuana.

Five states have recreational marijuana legalization on the ballot this year: Arkansas, Maryland, Missouri, North Dakota and South Dakota.

The Biden administration also made headlines this month when it announced pardons for all those convicted of simple possession of marijuana at the federal level.

Marijuana use is increasing among American adults, with 49% of all adults in 2021 reporting having tried the product at least once in their lifetime.
