Today marks the start of American Craft Beer Week, and a new brewery-focused app could help San Antonio drinkers navigate the craft beer scene right from their cellphones.

Launched by the Texas Craft Brewers Guild in August of last year, the Texas Brewery Passport app is designed to help beer enthusiasts find and visit small independent breweries that are members of the association across the state.

While in the app, users can explore nearby craft breweries using a location-based list or map, create custom brewery trails featuring favorite bars and stamp a digital passport for each new brewery they visit. Along the way, they can collect stage badges and earn points which can be redeemed for prizes and free merchandise at participating breweries.

The free Texas Brewery Passport app is available for iOS and Android.

The Texas Craft Brewers Guild is hoping the app will increase visibility for the brewery as the industry rebounds from the ongoing pandemic. It’s also bet that the download will be a useful tool for travelers looking to explore the beer scenes of unfamiliar cities.

Craft Beer Week, created by the Brewers Association, encourages hop lovers to explore their towns and support their favorite local bars, breweries and breweries. This year’s iteration comes as the industry struggles to rebuild itself after the protracted COVID slowdown. It starts today and ends on May 16.
