Eni: inaugurates the first hydrogen refueling station in Venice Mestre

Venice Mestre (VE), June 10, 2022 – Today Eni inaugurated the new Enistation San Giuliano in Mestre, Venice, in the presence of the Mayor of Venice Luigi Brugnaro, the COO of Eni Energy Evolution Giuseppe Ricci and the CEO of Toyota Motor Italia Luigi Ksawery Luca . It is the first road mobility station open to the public in an urban area in Italy where it is also possible to refuel with hydrogen.
The system is equipped with two distribution points with a capacity of more than 100 kg/day, which make it possible to refuel vehicles in around 5 minutes, as well as buses. The station has been equipped with innovative safety and firefighting equipment. It has been completely rebuilt in recent months and reopened to the public in February. It provides traditional fuels and electric charging services, with a charging column supporting two stations that can simultaneously charge a vehicle in fast and ultra-fast mode.
“For us it is an achievement, as well as a starting point. We want to play a leading role and it is no coincidence that we are in place like Veneto and Venice, creating infrastructures that meet to the demand for sustainable mobility and, more generally, an effective and concrete energy transition. Our commitment is based on our customers, to whom we wish to offer all our services and products around man and the automobile, with of public institutions, accompanying the strategic development of the projects they have planned for the transformation of our country” said Giuseppe Ricci, COO of Eni Energy Evolution.
Following the agreement signed in 2019 between the Municipality and the Metropolitan City of Venice, Eni and Toyota, the automaker will put a minimum of ten Toyota Mirai on the road. Three were delivered today to Mayor Luigi Brugnaro and will be used by the Municipality of Venice. Three other cars will be part of the fleet dedicated to the KINTO car-sharing service in the city of Venice. The rest will be delivered in the coming months.
Today marks a fundamental step in the development of hydrogen mobility in Italy. We are delighted and proud to support Eni and the city of Venice in the success of this project by making our Mirai cars available. The path to zero-emission mobility must leverage the widespread use of hydrogen and battery-powered vehicles, two technologies that we see as fully complementary to each other. The hope is that this will be the first of many hydrogen refueling stations that will soon align Italy with other European countries.” said Luigi Ksawery Luca’, CEO of Toyota Motor Italia.
Today Venice, thanks to Eni and the full support of the entire city administration, has provided tangible proof that it is truly the world capital of sustainability. It is a city that in recent years has been investing resources to contribute to an energy transition that effectively guarantees environmental protection. The oldest city of the future, it serves as an example for many other administrations to see what we are doing. This refueling station will enable us to make rapid progress in our plan to modernize local public transport powered by hydrogen, which we are implementing with investments from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. [PNRR]. Above all, thanks to Toyota, will add new hydrogen cars to the Municipality’s fleet. The future of Venice is today, and in this spirit we continue to look forward” said Luigi Brugnaro, Mayor of Venice.
