The Astroneer Rails Update arrives today, adding trains, railroad tracks, and automation support for a new method of transportation to this sandbox game. And yes, you can build roller coasters.
Astroneer added new content for almost 5 years, such as jetpacks, space probes and even a creative mode. The next big update has already been teased and there won’t be long to wait – the Astroneer The Rails update arrives today. Check out the update trailer!
As you might expect from its name, the Astroneer Rails Update adds trains to the game. You will be able to create rails anywhere on the planet, including crossing large canyons, and move trains anywhere on the planet. Gone are the days when your rover was stuck in a pit!
Tracks and trains aren’t the only new additions, though – this update has a fair amount of integration with the game’s existing automation system, as explained in System Era Softworks VLOG 038. Theoretically, you could have trains moving items from one warehouse to another on an automated schedule with minimal intervention on your part. For example, you can set up a mining camp and have your rail system automatically collect all the resources you drop off at a train station.
Players will be able to create rails using pylons at several different predetermined vertical heights. You won’t have to worry about building the rails; rail pylons will automatically connect rails between pylons in the same way ties and extenders already work.
Naturally, you won’t just have to use rails for transport – I’m sure there will be plenty of people creating roller coasters too! This update will also add new puzzles and other mysteries to explore, but the exact details have yet to be revealed.
When is the Astroneer Rails update release date?
The Astroneer The Rails Update release date is July 11, 2022, on all platforms except Nintendo Switch; the Nintendo Switch release date will be July 21, 2022. As always, a specific release time has yet to be announced, so you’ll have to wait until System Era Softworks decides to let this update loose.
This new update will definitely make things much easier for new and experienced astronauts. If you haven’t jumped into this great sandbox game yet, you can to buy Astroneer for PC through Steam for just $14.99 or your regional equivalent, a 50% discount that lasts until July 18, 2022.
