For every villainous character in the anime, there are as many characters with hearts of gold. These anime characters will sacrifice everything to protect people, no matter their shape or size. These types of characters often have backstories that make them incredibly empathetic towards the plight of others.
Refusing to judge someone on their appearance doesn’t automatically make someone a good person. However, this definitely makes them more trustworthy, especially to those who have only been shown hate or violence instead of kindness.
ten Midoriya wants to save everyone (My Hero Academia)
Midoriya has been obsessed with becoming a hero for most of his life and it’s not because he wants to be rich or famous, it’s because he genuinely wants to help people. Whether it’s a villain, a civilian, or another hero, Midoriya will do whatever he can to make sure everyone is safe.
After all, he struggled a lot as a Quirkless kid, so it only makes sense that he understands the people who suffer the most.
9 Tohru is a genuine person (fruit basket)
Tohru may be a beachhead, but she’s also a really nice person who will go out of her way to help people. She often embarrasses herself to make sure she is not a burden to others.
Even when the Sohma family members abused her, Tohru refused to back down and vowed to help them. Sohma’s curse would never have been lifted if she hadn’t gone out of her way to become friends with Akito. The Sohma family definitely owes him because of that.
8 Tanjiro understands people’s suffering (Demon Slayer)
Tanjiro cares deeply for his family and friends, which makes the loss of his family all the more tragic. Despite the fact that his family was killed by a demon, he does not use hatred to fuel himself as a demon slayer. The things he went through gave him a deep understanding of people’s suffering.
It doesn’t matter who they are, demon or human, he will treat that person with kindness, even if it means killing them so they can be free from pain. The fact that he understands the suffering of demons shows how kind he is and makes him the perfect demon slayer.
7 Orihime is everyone’s best friend (Bleach)
Orihime is the kind of person who can befriend anyone. Her bright and kind demeanor draws people to her and that’s probably why she was able to make so many allies during the Soul Society arc.
Even her enemies will receive her kindness, no matter how badly they have treated her. The fact that she was willing to save the life of one of the Arrancars after brutally beating her shows how little she judges others.
6 Luffy is friends with creatures and humans (One Piece)
It makes sense that so many people would be willing to side with Luffy considering he doesn’t have any evil bones in his body. He definitely has a sassy side, but he’s not the kind of person to kick someone while they’re down.
Whether it’s a whale, a human, or another type of magical creature, Luffy will befriend anyone. That doesn’t mean it’s child’s play though. Anyone who mistreats his crew will face the wrath of the future Pirate King.
5 Princess Syalis Only Cares About Sleep (Sleeping Princess in Demon Castle)
Princess Syalis may have been kidnapped by demons, but she sure isn’t acting like that. She has virtually free rein from the demonic castle she’s supposed to be trapped in, and she’s even gone on trips whenever she feels like it. Often, she’s an all-out threat that tortures poor demons, but it’s definitely not because of their looks.
She is perfectly happy to be friends with any demon if he is cute and cuddly enough and she is not at all afraid of other demons wandering around the castle. As long as she is able to get a good night’s sleep, a person’s appearance means absolutely nothing to her.
4 Natsu is incredibly protective (Fairy Tail)
Natsu is the most carefree member of the Fairy Tail guild and while he can be a bit annoying, he is generally loved by everyone he meets. This is mainly because his personality type lends itself well to friendship and he is ready to be friends with anyone, no matter who he is.
Like many shonen protagonists, he is fiercely protective and loyal to those he cares about. Not only will he not judge people for their looks, but he will also protect them from others who judge them.
3 Haruhi understands the difficulties (Ouran High School Host Club)
Haruhi can be a little cynical towards her club members, but it’s usually because of the ridiculous antics they get into. To everyone else, she’s incredibly caring and understands people’s situations, which is why she’s able to become such a popular host.
Most people would turn their backs on the rich and their problems, but Haruhi isn’t like that. She understands that people face hardships no matter their standard of living, which is why she strikes up friendships with virtually everyone.
2 Bojji knows what it’s like to be an outcast (kings ranking)
It would make sense that Bojji would hate his townspeople considering how often they make fun of him and put him down. Despite this, he is genuinely kind to everyone and easily befriends a member of the Shadow Clan who has been ostracized by everyone.
Then again, it makes sense for him to feel empathy for those who are judged by others considering how often people judge him.
1 Somali doesn’t treat demons like monsters (Somali And The Forest Spirit)
Somalia has every right to despise the demons since they enslaved her and probably killed her family. However, she never shows an ounce of fear around demons and she makes friends very easily.
The fact that she treats demons as people rather than monsters is likely the reason everyone she meets changes their minds about their human biases.
